The Upper Mustang Trek is an adventure hiking tour to the mysterious Upper Mustang region of Nepal. Lo-Manthang is the capital of Mustang region isolated from the modern world. The cultural heritage lies in the border to Tibet beyond the Himalayas.

Upper Mustang is a preserved, superior area where only a limited number of trekkers are allowed to trek each year. The area covered by Upper Mustang trek is conceivably the last reserve of unspoiled Tibetan culture. Forbidden and isolated from the rest of the world it was able to evolve its own idiosyncratic culture and tradition which is so rich & unique. Mustang is a windy, high and dry valley characterized by windswept canyons and colorful stratified rock formations. As everywhere in the Himalayas, this area provides spectacular mountain scenery highlighted by Dhaulagiri at 8167 meters and Annapurna I at 8091 meters. You will be surrounded by more than 35 mountains over 6000 meters high. The elevation of the trails rise from 2815 meters to 3780 meters above the sea level.

The Upper Mustang trekking starts with a scenic 25 minute mountain flight to Jomsom airstrip. The trekking route to Upper part of Mustang passes through primeval villages of Kagbeni, Samar, Charang and Geling before we reach Lo-Manthang at 3750m. We visit the important monasteries and houses of local dignities. We stay for one more day at Lo-Manthang and visit to wonderful Namgyal Gompa. Our groups are often allowed for a meeting with the former local King. Our next destination is Muktinath, the Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage site on the high Himalaya. Finally we reach back to Jomsom and fly for Pokhara.

The rain shadow are of Upper Mustang is possible to trek in the rainy season from July to September also. In the winter (December to February) it is difficult to travel because of the cold but possible to trek. Come and enjoy the natural beauty of the hidden land by joining for Upper Mustang trekking in Nepal. If you can join for Upper Mustang Tiji Festival trek, it is the wise choice to know the Tibetan influence culture in Mustang area.

Clients Reviews

Fabulous Upper Mustang Trek in June 2017

I recently returned from my 15 day trek to Upper Mustang - and I loved it! This is also thanks to the great service provided by Life Himalaya Trekking. I started my in-depth research on the region and on the agencies offering a guaranteed departure only two weeks before my planned starting date. Life Himalaya Trekking was one of the companies I found randomly on the internet. Although I couldn’t find many reviews or feedback of other travellers, at the end Life Himalaya Trekking managed to convince me for a number of reasons which proved to be right:

-Right from the beginning, Shiba - the founder and managing director – was very quick and reliable in our e-mail correspondence and patiently answered all questions I had. This helped me to clear doubts before going trekking in the Himalayas during the start of Monsoon season (yes, even during monsoon season you should consider going to Nepal if you want to avoid crowds of people).

- The costs were very transparent in terms of services included in the offer - no hidden costs. Also the package was explained to me again on the day of arrival so that everything was clear.

- Life Himalaya Trekking is contributing profits to the Ganesh Himal community foundation. To me it was important to see the direct link to a very specific social cause or organisation that is being supported in a sustainable way.

- The agency is not very big, and I wanted to support a smaller operator which committed itself to give back to its community. This is also reflected in Shiba’s employment philosophy, trying to give employment to as many staff as viable.

- I had 2 special requests for my trip deviating from the standard itinerary. All staff was always very flexible so that I could make most of my trip.

- I experienced professionalism from the first email contact until the airport drop-off on the departure day. I always felt in good hands.

Next to Shiba, I’d like to warmly thank my guide Kiran and porter Sabut for their great work! Both of them were very considerate and friendly at all times. All in all: I would definitely recommend Life Himalaya Trekking to my friends and other travellers.
